Where To Listen To Oscar Nominated Music

Movie fans are waiting in anticipation for the Oscars this Sunday! However, the Oscars isn’t all about the movies themselves, but the music in them. In each movie are sounds, scores, and original songs that make it what it is. Without sound and music, no movie is complete. Here are some of the Oscar-nominated music and where you can listen to them.

La La Land

Of course, La La Land is nominated for Original Score and Original Score. The Original Score for the movie was created by Justin Hurwitz. For the Original Score category, two songs from the movie are nominated, “Audition (The Fools Who Dream)” and “City of Stars”. There are many reasons this movie is set to win both of these categories. First, the lyrics to the two nominated songs are written by Benji Pasek and Justin Paul, the masterminds behind the hit Broadway show Dear Evan Hansen. Secondly, the movie has been so raved about and critically acclaimed, it’s a shoe-in for any category it’s nominated for. Lastly, who can resist Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling! They are the BEST movie couple and have the singing chops. This movie is nominated for a total of 14 awards this year!

Now, where can you listen to La La Land? You can listen to it for free on music-streaming services such as Spotify. YouTube is also a great source to listen to the music as well. If you are willing to pay, you can listen to the music with an Amazon Streaming Unlimited subscription and on iTunes.

Disney’s Moana was a big hit this year starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The music was popular as some of the songs lyrics were written by Hamilton musical creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. Other popular singers besides Lin on the soundtrack include Nicole Scherzinger and Alessia Cara. For the Oscars, Moana is nominated for its Original Song, “How Far I’ll Go”. With Lin-Manuel Miranda’s popularity, I wouldn’t be surprised if the song beats out La La Land in the category! Moana is also nominated for Animated Feature Film.

The Moana soundtrack is available pretty much everywhere! You can buy the actual CD whether the physical copy or on iTunes. Also, you can listen to the music on Amazon Music, Google Music, and Spotify.

Trolls was nominated for its hits song, “Can’t Stop The Feeling” by Justin Timberlake. Everyone knows this song whether they have or haven’t seen the movie. You truly can’t stop dancing to this song! The soundtrack is also filled with very talented singers including Anna Kendrick, Gwen Stefani, James Corden, Ariana Grande, and Zooey Deschanel. After watching the movie and listening to the music, the movie is definitely worth an Oscar! You can listen to the Trolls album via iTunes, Spotify, and YouTube.

Honestly, most people probably do not know this movie. However, the song nominated for Original Song, “The Empty Chair”, is worth listening to! It was written by J. Ralph and Sting. Briefly, the movie is about wartime photographer Jim Foley who was captured in 2012 by ISIS. The song perfectly reflects the tone of this movie. This is the fourth Oscar nomination for Sting. This song can be listened to on YouTube, iTunes, and Spotify.

What films do you think will win in the categories of Original Score and Original Song? Here are my picks: La La Land for Original Score and “How Far I’ll Go” for Original Song. Either way, these scores and songs deserve their nominations in their categories. Tune in this Sunday to ABC for the Academy Awards!
